Are you eligible for Medicare?

You are eligible for premium-free Medicare Part A if you are age 65 or older and you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. 

 

You can qualify for Medicare Part B by meeting the following requirements:

  • You must be 65 years or older;

  • You must be a U.S. citizen, or a permanent resident lawfully residing in the U.S for at least five continuous years;

  • If you have end-stage renal disease (ESRD); you may sign up for Medicare;

  • If you have ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease), you’ll get Part A and Part B automatically the month your Social Security disability benefits begin;

  • If you’re under 65 and have a disability, you’ll automatically get Part A and Part B after you get disability benefits from Social Security or certain disability benefits from the RRB for 24 months.
