What is Medicare?
Medicare is the federal government program that provides health insurance coverage.
You qualify for Medicare if:
You are 65 and over;
You are under age 65 and receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for a certain amount of time (you are eligible after 24 months);
You are under age 65 and have either End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS.
It is IMPORTANT to note that when we refer to "Medicare" we are referring to parts A and B of Medicare. This is also commonly referred to as "Original Medicare"
We will cover additional topics (Medicare Advantage, Medigap, Part D, for example) in the many sections to come!
